Potions and Components |

Back to Magic
Potion making is a rather involved process in the Harry Potter world and to attempt to simulate that within the Mu* environment we have developed a component system. Spell components are randomly made available in outdoor rooms around the game. Components range from rank 0 which is the most common to rank 5 which are incredibly rare and will generally only be able to be obtained with staff intervention. If you are in a room with spell components you can use the command +collect to retrieve them from the room and put them in your component store. This store works much like the bank code. You can give components to other people and eventually there will be herbalists available as sellers in the game from whom you can purchase components. Each potion takes a combination of spell components. In order to brew a potion you need access to a cauldron. Help is available from each cauldron but basically you type in a command that tells the cauldron which potion you intend to brew. The cauldron will tell you how many of each component you need. You will then add the appropriate components to the cauldron. It will report back when the components added match the components needed for the particular potion. You will then trigger the brew command. This command takes into consideration the difficulty of the potion, your stats and a random environmental fate roll to determine success. If you succeed, you will find the potion in your inventory. At this point in time if you fail, you get a fail message and you lose the components. At some point in the future I hope to make it more interesting by allowing SOME potion to be brewed.. whether or not it actually DOES anything will be up to the risk of the one finding it. *evil grin* |
