At this time Malinda declines Malinda confronts him about other things and begins to realize that perhaps she had a warped impression of what he'd done and why Courtney rides in the coach with Malinda on the way back from the funeral He lays out the politics of the situation and tells her that he will be leaving court and retiring to Mayshire to get out of the line of fire, he suggests she might want to plan a trip to Baelmark to retrieve her belongings that were on the ship Once she arrives at Grandon, Malinda gets word to Durendal that she has changed her mind and would like to make the trek to Ironhall |

He finally warns her that she will be married off and that the blades are ended That night Malinda goes to bed alone with a flask of spiced wine... she asks Dog to deflower her so she will no longer be worth as much as a bride.. somehow in the course of events she decides she wants him as her lover The next day she confesses to Audley and makes arrangements so she can spend her nights with Dog as often as possible That evening she receives a letter from "Stealth" warning her that the Royal Guard will be removed and telling her to trust no one but her blades Two days later the Royal Guard vanishes when the Council of Regency decides that Beaufort would be a more suitable residence for the young king during his childhood Shortly after that Malinda is summoned to council as it investigates her father's death The inquiries continue over a few days with each day getting progressively more combative. Finally she is told that she will be being moved to Ness Royal; she asks for a meeting to be arranged with Stealth Stealth is revealed to be Durendal The group tries to figure out how to get Malinda away safely and Winter comes up with the idea of her heading to Ness Royal immediately rather than waiting for the escort |
