safety in your eyes
and the memory of your smile
a chance encounter
metamorpheses into eternity
for without you i am lost
a soul with no substance
or perhaps corporeal with no spirit
either way, unity divided
from that which makes it real
do you love as i love?
is this needful separation as agonizing to you
or does it fade and drift away
like ash on an endless tide of complacency?
