Magic Code Use
Back to Recommendations

There are several different ways one can use magic in this game. All of them are guided by Magic Use but each allows for a different implement and a different extent of code control.

The first and simplest is simple to RP it out.. not code use at all. This takes agreement between the players involved as to who is going to succeed and who is going to fail. Sometimes it might also require staff judging of the situation.

The second is the use of the +attack and +counter code. This is a pretty simple bit of code operating much like a dice roll. One person rolls, then the other person rolls. The two numbers are compared. The person with the higher number wins and the difference between the two numbers can determine how the scene is set, i.e. did the person absolutely dominate or was it a very close judgement. +counter/+attack only takes into consideration the age/level of the casters, it does not take into consideration the difficulty of the task being performed. It is only meant to be used for magical endeavours because it doesn't take into consideration any physical stats like agility or strength.

The third is the actual use of +cast or +cast/at. This code takes into consideration the age/level of the caster as well as the difficulty of the spell being cast and the relevant stats of the caster. In the case of +cast/at it also takes into consideration the stats of the target of the attack. It assumes that the person would attempt to block or dodge so a separate code by them is unnecessary.

There are some other alternatives using the actual functions which are components of the second two choices but those are better handled on a case by case basis and not going to be detailed here.
