darkest night of the soul
lit by diamond fire
breaks into obsidian fragments
raining to the ground
shattered cage ends in truest freedom of the self
hope on fragile wings rises to fill the void
breathing life into a world
abandoned to lonliness
for an instant: perfection
love in triumph
but for a fleeting second only
doubts assail the gloom descends
shadows threaten in dim armies
the phoenix renewed falls to ashes
what now?
a return to night
where only dreams of what might have been
drift like gossamer butterflies over the barren landscape
