Contemplation
The world spins on its own
day follows night
the dull endless progression
when as a child, excitement brightened every corner
now shadows of complacency dim all the refined
edges into blurred echoes of what they once were

homes and dreams have been exchanged for reality
sleep to work work to chores chores to sleep
never varying never ending

except for the brief glorious moment of a dream
the fantastical escape from the mundane

a wish realized .. if only for a brief moment in the midnight hours
